Slowly but steadily, Google takes care of the competition, wherever in the world; the last acquisition by the “gentle giant” is a russian contextual advertising company: Begun.

Their new toy have cost them 140 million USD. Not much of a heavy investment, Google’s quarterly revenue reaching approximately 6 billion USD! :-?

I am not really aware of any good open source application for the platform, but there are two license-based software that deserve a close look:

iStopMotion and Dragon;

Dragon’s interface is one hell of a handsome one! Both seem packed with a handful of features; even though iStopMotion boasts a more impressive list on its website, Dragon’s features are far from being trivial, and seam directed towards the upper level professional.

I’m going to download iStopMotion’s trial for a first-hand experience of it. Unfortunately, no trial version is provided by Dragon Stop Motion.
